5-member legal team to fight for netizens’ rights

In a joint statement issued by party legal wing president R Shanmugasundaram and secretary R Girirajan, the party has advised party cadre sympathisers and public who have been affected by the police for airing their political views online to approach the five-member team for free legal advice.

The team has been constituted in the backdrop of several DMK cadre alleging that they have been threatened by AIADMK men for posting their views on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. 

Referring to apex court observations about positive use of Internet to air political views in the democracy, the DMK legal wing said the ruling AIADMK was using the police to curtail free speech instead of democratically responding to the online criticism. 

In an another statement, party general secretary K Anbazhagan announced the appointment of former union minister S Raghupathy as secretary (in charge) of Pudukottai south district, which fell vacant following the demise of incumbent K Thangavelu early this week. However, the party did not make any changes at other levels in the district. 

Meanwhile, DMK working president M K Stalin congratulated IUML leader Khadar Mohideen on being unanimously elected the national president of the party. Stalin said the DMK would continue its unflinching support to Khadar Mohideen in his efforts to safeguard the secular fabric of the country.
