690 health camps planned across state
Nearly 690 health camps were kicked-off by the health department across the state to mark the 69th birth anniversary of late chief minister J Jayalalithaa. The health camps, which would be on till February 28, would focus on women’s wellness.

This year, the State Health Department officials have planned the camps in government hospitals and the private hospitals covered under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Scheme. The camps would screen for birth defects besides offering special and intensive care for pregnant women. Cancer screenings would also be done as part of the camps, which would cover all aspect of healthcare apart from offering treatment for heart, kidney, ENT and eye-related conditions.Â
Health Minister Dr C Vijayabhaskar and Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar inaugurated a health camp at Tondiarpet on Friday morning. Over 50 doctors and 20 nurses from the Madras Medical College, Kilpauk Medical College and Stanley Medical College took part in the camp and attended to the patients.Â
Perambur MLA P Vetrivel, state Health Secretary Dr J Radhakrishnan, Director of Medical Education Narayana Babu, MMC Dean Dr MK Muralidharan, Stanley Dean, Dr Ponnambalam Namasivayam, and others participated in the inauguration of the camp. A baby born on Jayalalithaa’s birth anniversary on Friday at Government RSRM Hospital was presented a gold ring and showered with gifts.Â
