On the official front, chief minister Palanisamy will inaugurate a campaign to plant 69 lakh saplings all over the state at the multi super specialty hospital at the government estate at 9 am.

Meanwhile, former CM O Paneerselvam plans to celebrate Jayalalithaa’s birth anniversary by handing out welfare measures to nearly 10,000 beneficiaries at Tondiarpet in the RK Nagar constituency, which was represented by Jayalalithaa till her death.

Former minister KP Munusamy told newsmen on Thursday that the police were trying to prevent the function from taking place.

Deepa Jayakumar will visit Jayalalithaa’s memorial in the morning and later inaugurate a Peravai office near T Nagar. Though she had voiced support for Paneerselvam by meeting him at the Jayalalithaa memorial and had even visited his residence during the run up to the confidence motion in the Assembly, her supporters, sources reveal want her to contest alone as they fear that experienced politicians might swamp the fledgling group. This assumes importance in view of the fact that she will not be participating in the welfare measures distribution function along with Paneerselvam at Tondiarpet, sources revealed.

All groups will visit the Jayalalithaa memorial on the Marina in the morning on Thursday at various time and pay floral tributes to the late leader on her birth anniversary.
