Assistant Commissioner of Ashok Nagar G Harikumar and Inspector of police Swarna Kalanjam arrested Anandan (52) of Jafferkhanpet and R Subramanian (42) of Saidapet, based on the complaint by Tahsildar of Mambalam-Guindy Taluk, R Ananda Maharajan.
In fact, the duo had their office near the Tahsildar’s office itself at Bharathidasan Colony near Kasi Theatre in Ekkaduthangal and had been involved in the business for over five years, police said.
Ananda Maharajan on Tuesday filed a complaint with the MGR Nagar police that his signature and official rubber seals were misused.
In his complaint, he had submitted that he came across a death certificate issued to Chandranath with his signature and seal. On checking the certificate, he found that it was a forged one. He had further stated that Chandranath claimed to have received the certificate from two men.
“The two have been running this business for the past five years. They have been issuing certificates with Tahsildar’s forged signature and seals using rubber stamps. We seized 32 forged government seals of all types used in the Tahsildar’s office. They have been selling death certificates and marriage certificates to unsuspecting people at a cost of Rs 500 to Rs 2,000,” said Assistant Commissioner G Harikumar.
The duo has also been involved in a forgery case in Tambaram years ago. The police arrested them under section IPC 420, 468, 471 read with IPC 34.
