Second trial of Pedestrian Plaza in Panagal Park tomorrow
The second trial run for the proposed Pedestrian Plaza on Thyagaraya Road is scheduled for February 25, after the first trial on November 20 garnered a positive response from the public.

An official from the Greater Chennai Corporation, which is implementing this project, said, “We had received a positive feedback from the public during the first trial run. Now, we are conducting a second trial on February 25 from 8 am to 5 pm.”
The traffic will be diverted on Thyagaraya Road for vehicles from Panagal Park towards Anna Salai. Only buses and two-wheelers will be allowed on the usual stretch. Cars, autos, shared autos and vans must take diversion at G N Chetty Road and take right at Dr Nair Road and reach Anna Salai.
The vehicular traffic from G N Chetty Road to Raja Mannar street, Kamalabai Street, Muthu Krishnan Street and from Venkatanarayana Road to Nana Street, Sivagnanam Street, Deena Dayalu Street, Sundaram Street, Sivaprakasam Street, Kannadasan Street, Bagavandham Street and Raja Street are closed for public, except for residents of that street.
For customers who want to shop at Pondy Bazaar, parking arrangements have been made at Bashyam Road in front of Panagal Park and Chennai Middle School ground at Prakasam Road. Vehicles from Anna Salai, Thanikachalam road & Dr Nair road can use the proposed Multi Level Parking (MLP) Site opposite Hindustan Petroleum bunk on Thanikachalam road or on the on-street parking space available between Boag road junction and Dr Nair road junction.
Eco-friendly battery operated cars will be run within the pedestrian zone on both sides of Thyagaraya road to take care of senior citizens, differently abled, children and pregnant women for the short distance commutation within the pedestrian plaza zone. Like last time, the proposed plaza will see recreational activities. The survey of the result will be used for the final design of the proposed pedestrian plaza.
