Sasikala’s futile stop order to police
Reliable sources said that VK Sasikala, who has been convicted to four years’ imprisonment after Supreme Court upheld the trial court verdict, tried to stop the police from entering the resort, telling them that the court has given her time to surrender.
Chennai
On Tuesday, Sasikala asked the police team headed by North Zone IG Senthamarai Kannan and Kancheepuram SP Mutharasi to stay out of the resort and not to enter without their permission. However, police officials told Sasikala that the Supreme Court order has directed her to surrender immediately.
The police instructed Sasikala to leave the Golden Bay resort in Koovathur and return to Poes Garden and get ready to surrender at the Karnataka court. Police sources said Sasikala is in the custody of police as they will have to ensure her surrender at Karnataka court. “It is the duty of the police to ensure her surrender and prevent any possible attempt to abscond,” a senior police official said.
Sources said Sasikala first got a wrong information that the Supreme Court had given four weeks’ time for her to surrender. However, when police told her the clear contents of the judgement, she had no other option but to oblige. However, Sasikala continued with a meeting of the MLAs who have been staying at the resort for the last week. The meeting was held to select a new legislative party leader, as police stood guard outside the room.
Police sources said a special team will be accompanying Sasikala to Karnataka and would return only after she, along with other accused surrenders at the court.
