746 matric schools violate land norms, says official
Around 746 matriculation schools across the state were found to have violated the norms on prescribed land requirements for the school premises. A case on this issue would come up for hearing in a court on February 21.

Speaking to DTNext, an official for matriculation schools said, “The school can even use a nearby common playground, but violating such norms are not acceptable. Nearly 746 schools have figured on the list for having lesser land. After the list of violators went to court, some schools acquired further land to avoid trouble. On February 15, the Inspectors of Matriculation Schools will seek particulars from the schools.”
“We are also collecting the number of schools which are not in compliance with the DTCP (Directorate of Town and Country Planning). So the schools which were recognised even in 2016, will have to maintain the prescribed DTCP regulations for obtaining government recognition,” he added.
He further explained that the land area requirement for schools in villages, town panchayat, district headquarters and Corporation are different. A Narayanan, director of Change India said, “Not just matriculation schools, a lot of so called CBSE schools function without accreditation and affiliation are violation these norms. Many school buildings do not have approval from the CMDA and No Objection Certificate (NOC) certificates. Certain schools do not adhere to the National Building Code (NBC) and Tamil Nadu Building ACT (TBA).”
Education officials to meet in Tiruchy for board exams
With the state board examinations around the corner, the Director of Government Examination (DGE) Vasundara Devi D has convened a meeting with the Chief Education Officers (CEO) and the District Education officers (DEO) at Tiruchy on Sunday. The students in Class 12 will appear for state board exams on March 2 and the SSLC exams will commence from March 8. Prior to that 32 CEO’s and 67 DEO’s will meet the DGE on Sunday to take instructions on laying out security measures and other arrangements at the exam centres, said Director of School Education S Kannappan. Respective collectors of each zone will also conduct a meeting with Chief Examination Officers, department officers, invigilators and flying squads, for the smooth conduct of the examinations, he said. Police bandobust at examination centres and for custodial points too will be discussed, he added.
