The internet doesn’t easily honour mere mortals with the ‘Thug Life’ meme. According to meaning available online, Thug Life meme, where the face of the person in question is photoshopped with iconic black sunglass and a cigar, is conferred to someone who has nothing but obstacles ahead and still overcomes them like a boss.

What the caretaker Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu did on Tuesday night on the Marina, earned him much adulation from the social media and now he is the ‘ Singham 3’ and ‘Chilli Paneer’ and so on.
“Tired of being a starter, Paneer decides to become d main course.. And abt time too,” says Asyesha S, a Facebook user. There are video compilations doing the rounds too, the popular one being from the Dhanush-starrer Kodi where the younger Dhanush who becomes an MLA after his twin is killed by Trisha, meets her at a party meeting and tells her that he will find the culprit behind his brother’s murder. In parts of the video, the face Dhanush’s is replaced with that of OPS and Trisha’s with Sasikala.
The entire sequence with background music, according to the viewers, fits the scenario in Tamil Nadu. There are also videos of the caretaker CM walking in slow motion to the background of Kabali ’s ‘Neruppu da’ number. Another meme said: No matter how much you troll him, he always thinks best for his party and the people of Tamil Nadu.
Why has the social media suddenly woken up to the nicety of OPS? “He has always been a lowkey guy, always known as a substitute and not the real deal. He was made fun during the Jallikattu protests; jokes were brought into the memes. But when it was finalised that VK Sasikala would take over as the chief minister soon, there was a collective anger against her.
OPS’s outburst on the Marina and the revolt in the night made him the knight in shining armour for those who opposed Sasikala being the head of the state,” says Balaji V, a social media expert, adding, “Even without the social media, he would have been celebrated but the Internet just allows millennials to express creatively.”
There are hashtags like #opsmycm, #isupportops , etc., that were doing the rounds adding to his popularity. A look at the data from the Google shows ‘OPS’ has been extensively searched since Wednesday night. One can find that he was continuously searched since the Jallikattu protest started and the events that followed, but in the last one month, it was the highest on February 7, 10. 42 pm onwards.
“It is good to see that he is interacting with all the media houses and showing the leader in him and the social media is picking-up on the hype,” says V Suresh, a social media enthusiast.
Sasikala sacks party’s IT wing secy
AIADMK general secretary VK Sasikala on Wednesday removed the party’s Information Technology wing secretary, ‘Singai’ G Ramachandran from the primary membership. Ramachandran has been removed from post and his primary membership has been withdrawn for “going against” the party’s policies and “bringing down” its reputation, Sasikala said in a statement. The removal comes after Ramachandran reportedly offered support to caretaker chief minister O Panneerselvam who has raised the banner of revolt against Sasikala. In another statement, the 62-year-old leader said VVR Raj Sathyan will replace Ramachandran and appealed cadres to offer him their support.
