In January 2017, the price of a cylinder was Rs 594.50 and has increased by Rs 66.50 to Rs. 661 from this month. Meanwhile, cost of commercial cylinders has also been hiked to Rs 1,338.
Last month, commercial cylinder was sold out at Rs 1,223.50. An IOC official, seeking anonymity, said that they were compelled to increase the price as cost of crude oil in the international market had increased over the last two months. This had resulted in the prices of LPG cylinder going up.
“The oil companies in the last two years have been raising prices gradually. Due to that, the common people and economically weaker section are largely affected,” said a staff member of a cylinder dispensing agency. “If such situation continues, usage of cylinders would be on the decline in the future, the staff member added.
