Rainy days are over in Tamil Nadu
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai has ruled out the possibility of more rains in the state as the trough of low pressure over Bay of Bengal weakened on January 29.

According to RMC website, Saturday’s trough of low pressure over Comorin area (Kanyakumari) to North Konkan coast now extends from southeast Arabian sea to Konkan coast. However, associated upper air cyclonic circulation has become less marked. Dr S Balachandran, Director, Area Cyclone Warning, said, “Since the low-pressure that formed a few days back has weakened, we cannot expect more rains. However, we are monitoring satellite imageries.” He added that rains in the delta and southern districts will also come to a halt following the weakening of the trough.
Asked about possibility for another low-pressure, the director replied they could not predict any as of now. Weather bloggers too reject chances for rains in the coming days. Srikanth, a city-based weather blogger, said, “Chances of another trough of low pressure is very remote and there will be dry days till April. Chennai city had received only occasional drizzles, lasting just a few minutes in the last few days, while delta and other parts received heavy rains.” On Saturday, the RMC had forecasted moderate to heavy rains for the next 24 hours in coastal districts and southern parts of Tamil Nadu.
