Pleasant weather to continue in city
While delta and some pockets in southern districts experienced heavy rains, the Chennai city witnessed only drizzles occasionally lasting only for a few minutes on Saturday.
Chennai
The Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai in its forecast for the next 24 hours said that southern parts and coastal districts of the state will receive moderate to heavy rains.
The weathermen said that the trough of low pressure that has formed over Gulf of Mannar to north Tamil Nadu coast on Friday has moved westwards and now lies over Comorin area (Kanyakumari) to north Konkan coast (western coastline) with associated upper air cyclonic circulation extending up to 3.1 km above mean sea level.
“The trough of low pressure at mean sea level over southeast Arabian sea and adjoining Maldives area merged with the above system and due to this the southern districts, Puducherry and north coastal districts may experience good rains,” said an official.
Since the intensity would gradually reduce after 24 hours, rains would also subside in the state, he added.
In Chennai, the sky would continue to remain overcast like in the past three days and there would be mild drizzles in the next 24 hours,” said the official. The situation in delta and other districts, which witnessed heavy downpour in the last three days would continue to express same level of rains in the next 24 hours too.
Pamban island recorded a maximum rainfall of 13 cm, while Rameswaram received 11 cm in last 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Saturday.
