The only positive Chennai City could take out of the match was the lone goal they scored — their first in the league — ending their four match goalless streak. Both the teams created a host of chances but Chennai lacked venom in the final third as they endured another wasted day at office to stay put at one point from four games.

It was Chennai City who took the lead in the 52nd minute when Mohun Bagan’s Eduardo Ferreira failed to control a pass inside the box. Chennai’s Marcos Vinicius latched on to the opportunity and sent a shot on goal, a weak one but it had enough to find its way into the net between Debjit Mazumder’s legs.

Mohun Bagan equalised four minutes later when Jeje Lalpekhlua latched on to a Darryl Duffy’s touch to send the ball past a leaping Karanjit Singh, who earlier saved a stunning penalty off Sony Norde.

Chennai City lost steam and Norde took Mohun Bagan ahead in the 76th minute when Jeje sent Norde clear on the left and the striker finished the job with no hiccups.

RESULT: Mohun Bagan 2 (Jeje 56, Norde 76) bt Chennai City FC 1 (Marcos Vinicius 52).
