    Driver burns 55-year-old wife alive in Chennai

    In what seems to be a pre-meditated murder, a man poured kerosene on his wife and burnt her alive at their residence in Kilpauk on January 20 morning.

    The woman who suffered.  serious burns was rushed to the Kilpauk Medical College where she died without responding to the treatment. According to the police, Harikrishnan (56), a driver, who suspected the fidelity of his wife Saraswathi (55), planned to murder her. So, he purchased kerosene on Thursday night and had it ready in his house. On Friday, around 9.15 am, when Saraswathi was cleaning the pooja articles, Harikrishnan suddenly doused her with kerosene and soon lit up a cloth-wrapped spoon and threw it on her. When Saraswathi cried out for help, neighbours rushed to her rescue. 

    Immediately she was rushed to the Kilpauk Medical College. Amid the melee, Harikrishnan, managed to escape from the spot. Police later picked him up and is yet to record his arrest. According to the police, Harikrishnan often picked up a quarrel with his wife. “The couple have had problems for more than 15 years. So, Saraswathi along with her three children had moved out to another house in Choolaimedu. 

    Eight months ago, Harikrishnan pacified his wife and brought her back to his house at T P Chathiram,” a police official said. His younger son and daughter-in-law were staying on the top floor of the TP Chathiram house. But, on the day of the murder, Harikrishnan’s son had gone for work, police said and added that he had planned well in advance to murder his wife. He was also addicted to alcohol and Saraswathi used to fight with him over his drinking habit too, police said.
