No politician can ignore the voice of people: Protesters

“I am aware of the fact that only politicians can only find out a lasting solution for such raging issue. However, until people’s voice reach them or they will remain passive and mute spectator,” said A Jose, a graduate, Kovalam. He also added that though the game of valour is not conducted in his village, he would never miss the event on television and sometimes, he had even gone to villages near his native to relish the game. 

“Whatever law may be, but I hope this big protests will wake politicians up from the deep slumber. I do not know about any laws need to conduct this game, but I learnt that Supreme Court has banned this game. Tamil Nadu had been witnessing this game for past several decades and it is a traditional game,” said S Karnan of Thiruvallur.

Going by the present scenario, Karnan claimed that there seemed to be a political motive behind the scene and he accused of politicians of having double standard over the issue. Karnan admitted the fact that though he was aware of jallikattu, but he never saw it. 

“I want to join the people who conduct such games across the state. At the time, when the state is declared as ‘drought hit’, people would have been happy, had the state and centre applied corrective measures as early as possible,” he said. 

Another protester, K Senthil, a native of Thuraiyur in Tiruchy district said “Politicians always raise this issue just a few days before Pongal. Why should they not take up this issue very early. It is a clear indication that they use people as shield,” he said and clarified that he would continue to protest until a solution is found.
