The health officials also assured that swine flu was one of the seasonal diseases, and that there was no reason to worry. They also said that there was adequate stock of medicines in the government hospitals. The minister cautioned people with symptoms like fever and sore throat against self-medication and asked private hospitals to follow government protocol for testing and treating the condition.
“On Wednesday, one of the children admitted to ICH had been diagnosed with swine flu. The rest are being treated for pneumonia,” said K Kolandasamy, director, Public Health and Preventive Medicine. As many as 26 are undergoing treatment for respiratory diseases at the Government Stanley Medical College Hospital and Institute of Child Health. The disease came to light earlier this week, when a health nurse found traces of infection among residents, who were living in poor and isolated conditions, in Pudhu Gummidipoondi.
