Housewife sets herself on fire in Avadi
A married woman immolated herself at her residence in Avadi, reportedly after being accused of not taking proper care of her two-year-old child.

While inquiries revealed that the woman took the extreme step over the child’s illness, her mother said her daughter had not been resting properly after the child fell sick The deceased, Saira Bhanu (19), poured doused herself in kerosene and set herself ablaze in a room of the first-floor residence, located in Riverside Street in Kamarajar Nagar in Avadi. She succumbed to the burns at a hospital.Â
Bhanu lived with her husband Mohammed Rafi. Married for three years, the couple has a two-yearold child, Mohammed Ismail. For the past two days, Ismail had been suffering from fever, which made Bhanu very upset, the police said. Inquiries by police revealed that Bhanu took the extreme step over the child’s illness.Â
However, Bhanu’s mother Mumtaz (40), a resident of Red Hills, alleged that her daughter had not been resting properly after the child fell sick and ended her life over frustration. It is suspected that Mohammed Rafi’s family accused her of not taking proper care of the child.Â
