    Sexagenarian dies of cardiac arrest at Egmore station

    A senior citizen from Madurai died after suffering a cardiac arrest while waiting at the Egmore railway station for his relatives to come and pick him up.

    G Periasamy (65) and his wife Dhanalakshmi (60), hailing from Pandiyan Nagar in Kalavasal, Madurai, had come to Egmore station by Pandiyan Express (Madurai to Chennai Egmore) to meet their relatives who lived in Perungudi. 

    After reaching the station around 6.25 am, the couple was waiting at a hall on platform four for their relatives to come and pick them up. Periasamy then went to the toilet but did not come out for long. Dhanalakshmi, who went to check on Periasamy found him lying unconscious on the toilet floor. 

    He was rushed to the SIMS emergency clinic, located inside the station premises, where doctors declared that he had died after suffering a cardiac arrest. The body was taken to the Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital for a post mortem and was later handed over to the family. 

    In a separate incident, a man who was crossing the railway tracks, was fatally knocked down by an EMU train near Nungambakkam bridge on Friday night. The deceased was identified as Karthikeyan (29), a daily wager and a resident of Appara Garden in Shenoy Nagar. Railway police sent the body to the Government Rajiv Gandhi Hospital for a post mortem. The body was later handed over to the family members.
