DMK functionary hacked to death in front of his children near Sivagangai

The shocking incident took place when Saravanaraja, who was into travel and real estate business at Pudhur, had gone to drop his two children in their school in the morning. It is said that he took a U-turn in his car after dropping off his children, when a stone hit the car. 

And when Saravanaraja stepped out to check what happened, a gang suddenly surrounded him and hacked him multiple times in front of his children. 

Saravanaraja sustained grievous injuries and died on the spot. Onlookers informed Sivagangai Town Police, who rushed to the spot and recovered the body. After the initial investigation at the spot, a murder case was booked. 

In the preliminary investigation, police found out that Saravanaraja was a DMK functionary and had filed his nomination for Ward No3 at Pudhur. 

His opponent from AIADMK had ensured that all other candidates who filed nomination had withdrawn and Saravanaraja was the only one not to withdraw despite threats. Hence there was enmity prevailing between Saravanaraja and AIADMK cadre. 

The murder could be the result of enmity in local body elections, claimed Police sources. Meanwhile, former AIADMK councillor Dhanasekaran from Pudhur surrendered at Madurai Court in the noon in connection with the murder and he was remanded to judicial custody.
