Parties pay homage to MGR, Periyar
Floral tributes were paid to AIADMK Founder and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M G Ramachandran, popularly called as MGR, on the occasion of his 29th death anniversary here on Saturday.

Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, his cabinet colleagues, Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker M Thambidurai, AIADMK presidium chairman E Madhusudhanan, MLAs and hundreds of party cadres paid rich tributes at the memorial of MGR on the Marina beach front. Later, Panneerselvam and other AIADMK leaders also paid floral tributes at the memorial of former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, who died on December 5 and was buried near the MGR memorial. Leaders of various political parties also paid rich tributes to MGR on the occasion. Meanwhile, hundreds of people continued to throng the site where Jayalalithaa was buried and paid their homage. Police have made elaborate security arrangements to control the milling crowd.Â
At Puducherry, Chief Minister V Narayanasamy, Ministers Kandasamy, Kamalakannan, former legislator John Kumar among others garlanded the MGR statue in front of the new bus stand. AIADMK officer-bearers and legislators took out a silent procession from the party headquarters at Ouppalam. In Madurai, the AIADMK functionaries led by Madurai Town district assembly president Durai Pandiyan garlanded the statue of MGR and paid respects to the leader. Important functionaries and state Ministers Sellur K Raju and RB Udayakumar and even party MLAs were missing from the event organised to pay homage to the late leader on his 29th death anniversary.
