Police had already arrested the main accused, Suresh Kumar (25) on December 17. Suresh Kumar’s associate and a partner in crime, K Subash (33), a resident of Tiruparakundram, Madurai had been absconding after the murder came to light. Police had been hunting for him and finally managed to trace his whereabouts in the city itself. A special police team then arrested Subash from his hideout. He was later produced before the magistrate court and was remanded to judicial custody. Police had found that Nivedha and Suresh Kumar were having an affair and when Nivedha insisted on Suresh marrying her, he plotted to murder her with the help of Subash. Nivedha, who used to meet Suresh frequently, had booked a room for him and Subash at Hotel Picnic.  She was found murdered inside the room by the hotel employees.
