Normal power supply likely from December 14
In a bid to ensure speedy restoration of power in the city, Electricity Minister P Thangamani has ordered nearly 2000 TANGEDCO staff from Coimbatore and Erode to be sent to Chennai to expedite repairs to damages caused by the cyclone.

The Minister said, “If necessary, we will ensure that more staff are sent to Chennai to handle the situation. A total of 3,000 poles and 30 transformers have been damaged.” Officials said “a complete appraisal of damage and its estimate is underway.” Stating that the “damage was mostly due to trees falling on electrical equipment” officials added that “steps were being undertaken on a war footing to ensure that power is restored to all affected areas in Greater Chennai corporation limits by Tuesday evening.” Efforts were on to restore normalcy in affected areas by Wednesday, officials said. However, field officials could not be contacted at the sites on their mobile phones and this has slightly hampered the pace of the restoration work to some extent, a Tangedco official said.
