‘Vardah’ likely to make landfall on December 12
The Regional Meteorological Center (RMC), Chennai has ruled out the possibility for rain during next two days in the state, though cyclonic storm, Vardah is very likely intensify further during the next 24 hours.

Officials say that the system can move northwards for some more time, then north-west and cross the Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Kakinada around forenoon or noon of December 12. There is a possibility of slight weakening of the system before landfall. Officials say they can only predict about rainfall in the State after two days and warned fishermen not to venture into sea in the Andhra Pradesh coastal area from December 10. “The present climate indicated that depression formed on Wednesday over the south-east Bay of Bengal moved westward and concentrated into a deep depression and lay centred about 1,090 kilometers south-west of Vishakhapatnam. It further moved north-west and concentrated into a cyclonic storm, Vardah over south-east Bay of Bengal on December 8. The system is very likely to intensify further into a severe cyclonic storm during next 24 hours,” said a weatherman.
City lakes need water
Water level in the metro water lakes is on the decline and Krishna water from Kandaleru reservoir is only flowing into Poondi reservoir. Presently, the Poondi reservoir has a storage of 389 million cubic feet while Red Hills has 372 cubic million cubic feet. “Water from Poondi reservoir is being released to Red Hills. Other lakes like Chembrambakkam and Cholavaram have low level of water,” said an official.
