Day passes off without incidents in State; commendable job by police

The Tamil Nadu police and the Chennai City police worked tirelessly to maintain law and order and they did a commendable job in handling the millions of supporters who had thronged the city to catch a last glimpse of their beloved leader.

The city police had put in their entire force on the streets and nowhere there was a discord that developed in to a standoff between the police and the cadre.

The police swung in to full action, immediately after Jayalalithaa suffered a cardiac arrest and they worked like a well-oiled machine with all senior officers on command. Orders were issued in time and officers were given additional responsibility to handle each and every area in the state and city. 

Except for minor altercation between the cadre and the police in front of Apollo, there were no major violence reported in the city. Police restrained themselves and were polite to the Jayalalithaa fans, whenever emotions ran high and they tried to bulldoze through the barricades. 

Most of the senior most officials were devoid of sleep for the last three days and took care of each and every detail of police deployment and crowd management. Police also made elaborate arrangements to control the crowd at Rajaji Hall. While managing the millions, police also managed to keep up to the security protocol of visiting VVIPs. 

“We thank the AIADMK cadre who respected the retired soul and behaved themselves while paying respects. It was a huge challenge to manage such a huge crowd but with their co-operation everything went on without any problems,” a senior police official said. 

He also said his sub-ordinates also put in that extra effort to control the crowd and manage the flow of vehicles from other districts to Chennai.
