City experiences effect of Nada after landfall
As forecast by the meteorological department here, the city received heavy showers at regular intervals on Friday night and on Saturday due to the effect of Cyclone Nada that weakened into a depression and made a landfall near Nagapattinam coast during the early hours on December 2.

Normal life was slightly affected in Chennai on Saturday morning and water logging was reported from some parts of the city. Meanwhile, a low pressure area over Lakshadweep is likely to bring heavy rains to Coimbatore and Nilgiris in Tamil Nadu, the weather office said today. “The low pressure area has moved westwards and lies near Lakshadweep. Under its influence, rains are likely to occur in some places in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry while heavy rains are likely in one or two places in The Nilgiris and Coimbatore,” S Stella, Director, Regional Meteorological Centre, said. As far as Chennai city is concerned, the sky will be overcast and light rains may be experienced in some places, she told reporters. In the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Saturday, Virudhunagar had recorded the highest rainfall of 8 cm, followed by Madurai airport, Chennai airport, Kancheepuram and Chengalpattu with 7 cm each, she said. Further, an upper air cyclonic circulation persists over Sumatra and South Andaman area and under its influence, a low pressure area is “very likely” to develop during next the 24 hours, she said, adding, it is likely to concentrate into a depression in the subsequent 48 hours.
