Gopalakrishnan (30) died on the spot after he was stabbed on his neck by Revington Karthik Leo (25), who was enraged that Gopal assaulted his wife Bharathi (27) after learning about her extra-marital relationship with him. Karthik made the murder look like a robbery scene to avoid getting caught. However, he was arrested soon after the murder by a team of patrol police who noticed him moving in a suspicious manner on the road.
The victim worked as an assistant auditor for a private firm in Vadapalani and was married to his relative Bharathi for the past two years. The couple have an eleven-month child who lives with Bharathi’s mother in their native in Tiruvannamalai. Karthik had met Bharathi while the duo were working for Scientific Publishing Services in T Nagar and the duo were allegedly in an extra-marital relationship.
Recently, Gopalakrishnan found about the affair and even met Karthik to warn him. Police said as Gopalakrishnan had been physically assaulting his wife after getting drunk, she along with Karthik hatched a plan to eliminate him. The duo began contemplating the murder for the past two days and Karthik had visited the spot prior to the murder. At 2 am, Karthik reached Bharathi’s home wearing a wig, a pollution mask and gloves, said Inspector police U K Pasupathy. He knocked calling out ‘Krishnan’, but the door was opened by Bharathi and he sprayed the insecticide on her and she fainted. To maintain it as a robbery scene, he gagged her and tied her hands together.
Waking up to the noise, Gopalakrishnan, who was allegedly drunk, came out of the room when Karthik caught him and stabbed him on his neck. Later, he stole seven sovereigns of jewels and mobile phones and scattered few things from the bureau to make it look like it was a murder for gain. At Azhagiri Nagar in Bhakthavachalam Colony, a patrol team spotted him moving in suspicious manner. The police caught him and found the blood stained knife wrapped in a cloth. On further inquiries, he took the policemen to the apartment where the murder came to light.
