“Chief Minister s (Jayalalithaa) is very well. She has come (back) to her normal life; is eating well. She is ably doing her political work. The hospital is continuing physiotherapy for her,” party spokesperson C R Saraswathy said. Speaking to reporters here, she said Jayalalithaa “will return home soon”. The 68-year-old chief minister, who was admitted to Apollo Hospitals here on September 22 after she complained of fever and dehydration, had been treated for infection among other health issues. Earlier that evening, the TN Women and Men Basketball teams called on the CM at the Apollo Hospitals after winning the gold and bronze respectively in an All India Basketball tournament held recently.
Apollo Hospitals Chairman Pratap Reddy had last week said that Jayalalithaa, who had been given respiratory support, was doing well and speaking using a valve attached to the tracheostomy tube. He had also said Jayalalithaa was undergoing a “normal recuperation” after being in bed for several weeks and it is she who would decide when to return home. Just ahead of the November 19 polls and by polls in three assembly constituencies, CM Jayalalithaa sent out her first communique to party cadre urging them to work for the party’s win in the elections.
Thanking the party cadre, people of Tamil Nadu and her supporters from the rest of the world for their relentless prayers and offerings, Jayalalithaa said, ‘I want to gladly announce that I have attained rebirth as a result of your prayers” in a release that brought cheers among her party cadre. Meanwhile, TN Governor Vidyasagar Rao had handed over all the portfolios held by the CM to finance minister O Panneerselvam in her absence and he was also asked to head cabinet meetings. Several national politicians including BJP president Amit Shah, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi visited the Apollo Hospitals here to call on the CM.
