    Engineer held for assaulting MTC driver

    In yet another instance of road rage, an engineer has been arrested by the police for allegedly physically assaulting an Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) bus driver after the bus hit his luxury car at Padi Pudunagar.

    On November 28, around 7.30 pm, Balamurugan (28), a resident of G M Pettai in Royapuram, was driving the MTC bus (7K), which plies between Parrys and Padikuppam. He took a deviation via Padi Pudunagar as the usual route was dug up for road works. At the narrow 19th Street junction in Padi Pudunagar, the bus hit the rear side of a Renault car driven by Robert Wilson (53), a civil engineer and a resident of Anna Nagar, I Block. Enraged at the damage to his car, Wilson got out of his vehicle and entered the bus. 

    “Wilson pulled Balamurugan by his shirt and out of the driver’s seat. He then slapped and kicked the bus driver on his private parts with his shoes. Balamurugan fainted on the spot,” said M Ravi, Inspector of police. Wilson then left the spot in his car. Passengers in the bus rushed Balamurugan to a private hospital. Another driver Kumar was arranged from the bus depot to take over Balamurugan’s duty.  

    Meanwhile, the bus conductor Karthik and other passengers lodged a complaint with the police. After inquiries, the J J Nagar police Inspector M Ravi arrested Wilson from his residence after he admitted to the assault charges. He was remanded in Puzhal Prison on Tuesday, after being produced in the court. Balamurgan was later referred to the Government Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital where he is undergoing for a block to his urinary tract. Further investigations are on.
