    ‘Women should be trained in security to work in Industrial estate’

    Puducherry Lt.Governor Kiran Bedi, during a visit to the PIPDIC industrial estate here today directed that industries should sponsor women workers to be trained by the police to function as “women Civil Security Force” in the Thirubhuvanai Industrial estate.

    A Raj Nivas release here said, the Lt.Governor also  directed that along with existing beat  officer, a woman  police officer would also be  deputed for daily patrol. The industrial estate members raised concern about the security of women employees, the release said. The industrial estate representatives put forth some demands including setting street lights right and putting an end to the snake menace due to the non-clearance of bushes in vacant plots. The representatives also urged for a bus service from Tirubhuvanai main road to the industrial estate for which the LG directed to coordinate with the Puducherry Road Transport Corporation.   She also wanted the officials to begin a canteen inside the industrial estate and  to expedite the redressal of  grievances of  industries  in the estate.

    PIPDIC instructed to clear bushes

    Kiran Bedi asked the Pondicherry Industrial Promotion Development and Investment Corporation officials to launch steps in association with Forests and Electricity Departments to clear the sprawling site of the PIPDIC industrial estate near here of bushes and snakes.  A release from the office of the Lt Governor said she asked the PIPDIC management to requisition the services of the Forests Department to catch snakes, plant saplings and give a facelift to the estate. She also directed officials of the Electricity Department, to ensure that street lights were provided. She also said women workers in the industrial units should also be trained by the police department. PIPDIC Managing Director T.Karikalan and officials of Industries and Science and Technology departments also accompanied her.
