Ilavarasan case goes to CB-CID
The Madras High Court transferred the suspicious death of Dalit youth IIavarasan, three years ago in Dharmapuri to the CB-CID for further investigation owing to contradictory autopsy reports from doctors over the cause of his death.

The first bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice R Mahadevan on perusing the report of the Harur Deputy Superintendent of Police, said, “In view of the different perceptions of the two doctors and of AIIMS, we consider it appropriate that the deposition and investigation material be handed over to the CB-CID for further investigation and a report be submitted to us.”
The bench also recorded the conclusion of the police report that “IIavarasan committed suicide hit by the train under the influence of liquor, owing to distress over his love affair and that nobody could be blamed for the suicide.” The order is in pursuance of a plea moved by IIavarasan father T Ilango seeking a SIT probe citing lapses in the probe. He had contended that if his son was hit by a train, the injuries on his body would have been more. He had also submitted that even while the court had ordered for a second postmortem, the police had rushed to the media on July 7, 2013 claiming it was a case of suicide, creating doubts on the fairness of the investigation held.
