Passenger electrocuted in bus mishap on ECR
In a continuing case of fatal accidents in the state, a Chennai bound State Express Transport Bus from Veilankanni lost control and hit an electric pole along the ECR near Kovalam early on Thursday. One person was killed and six others were severely injured in the accident.

Police said the accident took place around 4.45 am and the driver appeared to have been engaged in rash driving, as the vehicle steered off from the road to the left before hit the electric pole.Â
Police said the electric cables were snapped in the impact and one passenger who tried to get out of the vehicle accidentally came in contact with the live wire and was electrocuted. The deceased passenger has been identified as Vigneshwaran (21), a native of Thiruthuraipoondi.Â
Police said the bus seemed to have been overspeeding and the electric police broke in the impact. Fortunately, all other passengers remained inside the bus and escaped being electrocuted. Police said the conductor of the bus was injured badly in the accident. Meanwhile, the driver managed to escape from the scene. Police said the driver was absconding. Despite widenning of the stretch of the ECR upto Mamallapuram, accidents continue to occur on a regular basis along the stretch.
