The workshop, which is first of four such workshops to be held across India, aims to share best practices from established TBI managers, projects, ecosystems with Indian stakeholders. The workshop guides them on developing and growing a sustainable TBI which will create prosperity for all and to position TBIs as the catalyst of the Indian Start up scene.

Participants at the workshop included incubation centre heads and managers, relevant government departments, academic/research institutions with an interest in start-ups, institutions considering launching a TBI, private equity/venture capital and other financial institutions with start-up divisions and start-up focused business support organisations. Speaking on the occasion, Bharat Joshi, the Deputy British High Commissioner, Chennai said, “The UK is the largest G20 investor in India, investing more than the US and Japan together, while India invests more into the UK than it does the rest of Europe combined. The UK India research relationship has never been so strong, rising from £1m in 2009 to over £200m today, and is growing exponentially. UK and Indian Universities are doing more research together than they have done before with partner Institutions.”

He adds, “This workshop is share some of the lessons we have learned to help develop and grow sustainable Incubation Centres as key drivers in PM Modi’s Start-up India initiative. UK companies like Kloudpad – which announced a £50m production facility for tablets and mobiles in India at the Tech Summit – design in the UK but Make in India. Also, new catapult centres and Knowledge Transfer Networks are bringing together top Universities and private sector Institutions.”
