Uttar Pradesh civic official summoned in accident case
The Madras High Court has issued a bailable warrant to the Executive Officer (EO), Nagarpalika Parishad, Etah District, Uttar Pradesh, in a motor accident claims case pending for the past eight years.

M Pandidurai (48), employed as a production officer in Hindustan Lever Limited, was fatally knocked in a road accident involving a tractor trailer belonging to Nagarpalika on January 28, 2004. Subsequently on August, 2007, the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal awarded a compensation of Rs 28.27 lakh with interest at 7.5 per cent per annum from April 16, 2004 in the case. This amounted to Rs 55.03 lakh.
But the United India Insurance Company Limited moved an appeal against the award contending that the vehicle involved in the accident was not insured with them on the date when the mishap happened. But even though the Nagarpalika filed an appeal, the EO had failed to appear thereafter all these years to answer the claim of widow, two children and 85-year-old mother of the deceased.
A Division Bench comprising Justice MM Sundresh and Justice MS Ramesh said “Though the counsel filed vakkalat on behalf of the EO, he has not turned up to assist the Court. In such a situation, we are constrained to issue bailable warrant to the EO, Nagarpalika Parishad, Etah District, UP ensuring his presence on December 21, 2016 before this Court.”
