Counting centre comes under 3-tier security in Madurai
The counting centre at Madurai Government Medical College has come under three-tier police security as the EVMs from Tiruparankundram by-election has been kept there. The counting of votes would be held on November 22.

On Sunday morning all the 582 EVMs were moved to the ‘strong room’ at the counting centre and they were sealed by the Collector in the presence of Election Observer UV Jose, and Returning Officer of Tiruparankundram constituency Jeeva. The counting centre was protected by three layers of security personnel. The innermost layers of the centre would be guarded by the personnel attached to Central Armed Police Force. The second layer would be manned by Special Armed Police and the outermost layer by local police personnel.Â
The entire counting centre would be covered by 32 CCTV cameras. There would be 14 tables setup for counting purpose said the election officials. Madurai Collector K Veera Raghav Rao, who was also the District Election Officer, said that the Tiruparankundram by-election was conducted without any law and order problems. He said that there were 21 complaints received through the toll free line on the day of election regarding money distribution and immediate action were taken. In total, 119 complaints were received in the toll free number kept at the election control room.
Minor dip in voting percentageÂ
After the final calculation of total votes polled there was a minor change in the voting percentage. Collector said that the total voting percentage in Tiruparankundram constituency was 71 per cent. The total percentage of male voters was 70.25 and the female voters was 71.76.Â
