The party’s state youth wing president Vinoj P. Selvam who launched the drive said that it was aimed at reassuring the people that the reason for the effort (demonetisation) of the Prime Minister was to boost the country’s economy and not to affect the common man.

“Over the last few days we have been interacting with the public who have been standing in long queues at banks and ATMs. They told us about the inconveniences and hardships they have been facing due to the demonetisation of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 notes. We told them that they need not wait there and could easily use the same card at fuel stations, grocery outlets, hospitals, hotels, booking tickets and buying jewellery,’ he said and added that their pamphlet distribution drive will be carried out in other districts as well.

    No other solution

Meanwhile, Coir Board Chairman C P Radhakrishnan told reporters here on Sunday that those who are criticising this novel initiative (demonetisation) of the government have not given a solution for making up for issue of cash shortage. “More 100 rupee notes could not be printed in advance as the intention of the government to demonetise currencies in higher denominations could be leaked. It would not have served the purpose,” he explained. He made an appeal to the public not to believe the misleading propaganda by political parties to claim that this exercise of the union government was a failure. According to him the initiative of the government has been successful and it will soon yield results. Radhakrishnan said that the government has been making various announcements over this issue as they are working out measures to check the black money mafia from misusing innocent, poor people for exchanging the demonetised notes in their possession.
