Raising awareness on usage of toilets

World Toilet Day is a day to raise awareness and inspire action to tackle the global sanitation crisis — a topic often neglected and shrouded in taboos. The Sustainable Development Goals, launched in 2015, include a target to ensure everyone everywhere has access to toilets by 2030. In 2013, the United Nations General Assembly officially designated November 19 as World Toilet Day.

As we celebrate World Toilet Day on Friday, let’s make a pledge to avoid certain toilet practices which adversely affect our well-being and hygiene. Here’s the way!

    Flushing with lid up:

The phrase ‘The toilet seat always stays down’ still holds true for every toilet! Flushing is a good habit but keeping the seat cover down while doing so is better. Germs and other particles become airborne when flushed with the lid open. To limit this, lowering of the lid before flushing is an essential habit that one should adopt.

    Spending leisure time in bathroom:

Living in the world of smartphones; regular texting, Whatsapping or scrolling through your mail in the toilet is a common phenomenon. But we are not aware that sitting for more than five minutes on the toilet, can increase the blood pressure in the anal veins. Apart from it, any object brought in the bathroom for a long time gets indirectly infected with the bacteria. You can always wash your hands, but can’t disinfect the phone.

    Use fragrance in toilet:

A musky or a flowery air freshener, whatever suits your senses is a good way to vent off the bad odour. And here comes the pro tip, if you suddenly run out of air freshener just light a candle. It might not smell as good as roses, but will take away the unpleasant smell by oxidising the gases causing bad odour.

    No water wastage:

In today’s water starving world, it is our duty to save water everywhere. Bathroom is one place where we waste lot of water. There are many products in the market today that limit water dispensing in toilets. Just invest in them and save water for future generations.
