Women garland ATM that ran out of cash

AIDWA state vice president N. Amirtham who led the protest said that women were the worst affected due to demonetisation of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 currencies. “In most of the poor families, women work as daily wage labourers. Now they are unable to get their wages and are forced to accept the old currencies and exchange them in the bank,” she said. Waiting in front of ATMs and banks for hours has forced them to skip work. She added that many banks and ATMs were running out of cash, in lesser denominations. “We are frustrated to see the ‘No cash’ boards in front of ATMs. So, we decided to garland ATMs running short of cash,” she added. According to her the newly released Rs. 2,000 currency notes have done no good for the people. They are facing difficulty when they shop as many traders are unable to give them change. She said that government should ensure that banks and ATMs have adequate cash or they should declare the demonetised currencies as valid.
