Junior Correspondent: ‘Let’s do our bit to end mosquito menace’

The mosquito menace is a huge and persistent problem in Alwarpet, where I live. Although at home we ensure that the surroundings are kept clean, the mosquitoes somehow manage to find their way in. Though there is a lot of awareness about controlling the breeding of mosquitoes, however, I find that not much attention is being paid to it. The water stagnation is not addressed by anyone and there are some open drainages in the locality.

There are still many people who throw garbage on the road, blocking the drainage systems and when it rains, water stagnation becomes a major issue. For our own benefit, we must follow some basic steps. First, is to ensure that there is no water stagnation around our house. Also, close the windows, get people to fumigate the entire house with herbal repellents, especially under the beds and behind the curtains. Also use mosquito repellent.

Many people are falling sick because of the mosquito menace, leading to death in some cases. This is avoidable. Let’s do our bit as it is always better to be safe than sorry.
