Though a section of mechanised boats ventured for fishing after Centre had recalled the old denominations of Rs 500 and 1,000, the situation has become worse and the fishers have officially called for a strike until the circulation of new currency becomes normal. Speaking to reporters, Mohandass, Fishing Panchayathar of Akkaraipettai fishing hamlet said, “We can’t do business until the circulation of new notes become seamless. The demonetsation has impacted our livelihood very much. Our buyers are reluctant to pay hard cash. And we couldn’t buy diesel using cheques.”
