Tamil Nadu Film Producers’ Council suspends Vishal
Actor-producer Vishal Krishna has been served notice of suspension by the Tamil Nadu Film Producers’ Council (TFPC), on November 14.
Chennai
Through an official statement released by TFPC, Vishal’s membership from the council was terminated on a temporary basis. Vishal had mentioned in a recent interview that TFPC was more interested in solving remuneration issues through Katta Pancha yat than more important ones like piracy, and finding new avenues to augment revenue. He had also informed of his plans to contest the next TFPC elections. The council had condemned Vishal’s interview when it was published and had demanded an explanation from him. After Vishal gave an explanation, the council felt that the actor’s explanation was not satisfactory. In the statement it is mentioned that Vishal is being expelled with effect from November 14. RTI activist Varagee told DTNext , “It was me who pressurised the council to expel Vishal on Monday morning.
When someone has made such statements saying that members of the council are only capable of eating savouries in the name of meetings, why would they have to wait to expel him? It is high time that members step forward to take action against Vishal. Being a member of the council, I am surprised why members lack guts to oppose him.” With the council elections approaching in January, the council has questioned Vishal on his recent activities and has come down heavily on his remarks. When DTNext contacted Vishal after the statement was released by the guild, he said, “I don’t know who signed this ‘official statement’. I was not even intimidated about this decision. I just saw the statement today.” The actor has been against the decisions of the council over issues like curbing piracy and their stand on satellite rights and has been pretty vocal about it. In an earlier interview to DTNext , office bearers of the council had said, “We are not here only to curb piracy or address satellite rights. We work for the welfare of family members of council members and address all their issues. We do not get recognised because we are not stars.” DTNext tried contacting the current office-bearers who were responsible for this decision. They unavailable to comment on the issue.
