Stalin, TNCC face off over Jaya’s maiden statement post recovery
DMK and Congress were not on the same page even on the issue of reacting to Chief Minister J Jayalalalithaa’s first ever public statement issued since her hospitalisation on September 22.
Chennai
amil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president Su Thirunavukkarasar has expressed happiness over Jayalalithaa issuing a statement on Sunday when she described her recovery as “rebirth” before appealing to the voters to back her party candidates in the three constituency polls. Conversely, treasurer of ally DMK and Leader of Opposition M K Stalin hit out at the ruling AIADMK for the demonetisation issue finding no place in CM’s statement and sought to know if the ruling party only cares for people’s votes. Subtly questioning the genuineness of the statement, Stalin asked “if Jayalalithaa thinks that it is sufficient to get votes and not care about people’s lives.”
Stalin wondered how Jayalalithaa, who claims to be living for the people, even cared to issue a statement even without a consolation let alone announcements to bail people out of the financial distress they are in. Later in the day, DMK president M Karunanidhi issued a statement, urging the Modi regime to respond to the accusation that the Centre had demonetised currency notes keeping in mind the ensuing election in a few states. He also asserted that one cannot overlook the apprehension of people that the demonetisation announcement could turn counterproductive and fail to achieved desired results. Recalling at length the reported inconveniences experienced by the people from across the country, Karunanidhi also asked the Centre to come forward to provide immediate relief to the suffering masses.
