City students gear up to take part in German Students’ Week
To inspire students towards conscious actions as future citizens, The Goethe-Institut Chennai Max Mueller Bhavan, is organising various events as part of the ‘German Students Week’ till November 13. As an international cultural institute, they have taken up this initiative with the hope that these events would not only bring the students together but also give them an opportunity to interact.

German Students’ week 2016 will be a platform for school students to participate in a week-long competitions and events organised in Chennai. On November 10, the Goethe Super League 2016, International Football Competition will be held at YMCA grounds at Nandanam. This is an inter-school football competition for boys and girls below 16 years. A maximum of 16 teams would participate in many rounds of matches which will culminate to the final match between the two teams that would have played through and won the elimination matches. The winners and runners-up will be awarded special prizes.
The event ‘Model Chennai Corporation’ will be held at Goethe-Institut Auditorium on November 12. This event is a presentation of the actual zone-wise findings comprising information and problematic issues of Chennai city which have been visited, data and vital statistics collected focusing on public awareness, waste management, water usage and conservation and assimilated by many teams of students from various schools over a period of time as a live project. Students would also propose ideas to solve these problems that they have learnt from other cities and countries. Each school would be given a booth for their presentation. A simulation of ‘Model Chennai Corporation’ debating the issues of each zone in a video capsule in 180 seconds along with 5 captions for ‘My idea for my city’ would be presented thereafter.
Topics that would be addressed are: storm water drainage, non-motorised transport policy, solid waste management, A glass painting competition will be held on November 13 at the Goethe-Institut Auditorium on November 13. It will be platform for students to explore their creativity artistically about their ideas for their city thematically on glass. The teams would be evaluated based on their interpretation of the theme, originality, artistic skills and design inputs, technique and effectiveness of the message in their presentation. The Grand Goethe Water walkathon will be the fitting finale for the German Students’ Week 2016. It will be a 4 km early morning walk along the Marina beach. As many as 3,500 students from various schools will display the strength of unity to create awareness and for a better future for Chennai.
