Two women fall victim to chain snatchers
Two women in the city were relieved off their gold chains by unidentified persons on Sunday. According to police, the first incident took place around 7.45 pm on Sunday when Vaidehi (34), a resident of Ezhil Nagar in Kodungaiyur was travelling in an auto from Korukkupet.

The vehicle had slowed down near a railway track in Kodungaiyur, when a man who was walking on the road snatched her two sovereign gold chain. Vaidehi works as a nurse at Stanley Government Hospital and was returning home after attending mass in a church in Korukkupet when the incident took place. The RK Nagar police who registered a case said that the man could not be identified by the victim as it was too dark. The police suspect the chain snatcher to be a history-sheeter and are conducting a probe to identify the accused.Â
In a separate incident, in Royapettah, a man on a two-wheeler, wearing a helmet snatched a five sovereign gold chain from Bhavani (36), who is a resident of Srinivasa Perumal Koil Street. On Monday morning at around 7 am, she had gone to buy vegetable from a shop near her home when the man relived her off her gold chain. The Royapettah police have registered a case and have obtain CCTV footage from the area. However, they have not been able to identify the man. They have registered a case and are conducting further investigations.
