Members of the public argued that the incident took place because the constable came in the way and stopped the vehicle. Since the signal was green, the students were unable to stop the vehicle and lost control. The vehicle skid and threw the students to the road.

According to initial reports, the students suffered head injuries and were in a serious condition. The students have been identified as Mohit (19) and Bhuvan Gupta (18) and are studying Visual Communication at DG Vaishanav College. The grade one traffic police head constable Shyam who was also injured in the incident, is also undergoing treatment for a fracture on his left leg.

A senior traffic police official said, “Mohit was riding the two-wheeler, while Bhuvan was the pillion riding. Mohit tried to apply the break, but lost control over the vehicle and hit constable Shyam.”

The students were rushed to a nearby private hospital, while the constable was taken to a government hospital from where he was shifted to a private hospital. The police alleged that students were not wearing helmets and were over-speeding.
