Junior Correspondent: Take action against those who litter our streets
For the past few days, in fact ever since the rains began, the mosquitoes in my area have begun to multiply fast.
Chennai
I live in Madhavaram and study in KRM Public School. Though we keep our houses clean and ensure that there is no water stagnation, the surroundings are not under our control. With just a couple of hours of rains, the road gets flooded.Â
The other problem in our area is that an open plot has become a dumpyard. Why is it that open spaces have become a convenient spot for discarding waste in our city?Â
At school, we are taught the benefits of source segregation and waste management. We follow that home and separate the garbage. There has to be more awareness on this, as people dump garbage wherever they like. They sometimes don’t want to walk to the bin just a few feet further away, to discard the waste. These are the places where water stagnates after rain and becomes a perfect breeding spot for mosquitoes.Â
Officials should bring in a policy where strict action is taken against those who litter in public.Â
