Third woman murdered in 4 days in city
In yet another murder in the city, the third reported in a space of four days, a 45-year-old woman was found murdered, with her hands and legs tied.
Chennai
Her decomposed body was found dumped in a small lane near her house at Muggies Garden, Thousand Lights. People in the neighbourhood informed the police after they sensed stench emanating from the area and police recovered the decomposing body of the woman.
Police suspect the involvement of the woman’s husband for the crime as he had filed a missing-person complaint with the Thousand Lights police on November 1. According to the police, the body of Dhanalakshmi, wife of Palani, was found in a lane near her house with her hands and legs tied. Police suspect that the body, which was inside the house initially, was dumped on the street on Thursday. Police have picked up Palani for questioning.
“The woman could have been murdered three days ago. We presume that her body was placed in the lane only on Thursday and suspect that it had been lying inside the house for the last three days,” a senior police official said.
According to the police, Palani and Dhanalakshmi were married for 10 years and did not have children. Palani, an alcoholic, was in the habit of picking up quarrels frequently with his wife, neighbours told the police. “The suspicion is on Palani but we are not ruling out other possibilities,” police said.
‘Duo entered Shanthi’s house at midnight’
T Nagar police is said to have got some crucial leads into the murder of Shanthi (65), who was found dead inside her house at Pulla Avenue on October 31.
The police team recovered CCTV footages from the area that showed two welldressed men entering the house of Shanthi between 11 pm to 12 midnight. One of them was carrying a backpack and they did not look like regular criminals, police sources here said.
Police said that the duo spent nearly three hours inside the house of Shanthi, indicating that they could have tried to get the signatures of the woman on the documents as she owned her house at T Nagar and another property in Bengaluru, where her father lived.
“The duo could have killed the woman after extracting what they wanted. We hope to crack the case in two to three days,” a police official said.
However, police have not made any headway in connection with the murder of woman advocate Lakshmi Sudha at Kumaran Nagar. Special teams have been formed to investigate the case but the teams are yet to get any leads that could take them closer to the accused.
