Cops begin head count of elderly for extensive patrol

Special teams from each police station have been deployed to collect the details. City Commissioner of Police S George said once each station has data of such persons under their jurisdiction, the beat patrol teams would make it a point to visit these houses on a daily basis. 

Each beat patrol team will have to visit a minimum of 10 points and the three teams in three shifts would be visiting 90 such points under their jurisdiction daily. 

According to officials, 85 per cent of the places now covered by the beat police are general points and 15 per cent are houses where the elderly people live alone. Police are now trying to improve this ratio to 60:40, so that a minimum 40 per cent of points covered are houses of the elderly living alone. 

Police have also directed house owners to furnish details of their tenants to local police stations. Contractors who hire migrant labourers for work in the city should have the full list of labourers and their background information updated for scrutiny by police.
