Rs 40 lakh seized from AIADMK functionary near Madurai highway
In one of the biggest seizures Rs 40 lakh cash was seized from an AIADMK functionary near Madurai, on Thursday. However, officials of district administration remained quiet about the identity of the person from whom the cash was seized.

As Tirupparakundram by-election is scheduled on November 19 model code of conduct is implemented throughout the district and cash of more than Rs 50,000 without proper documents are seized. On Wednesday, Rs 19 lakh and 3.25 kilogram of gold were seized from a gold merchant and that remained the highest amount seized so far.Â
On Thursday morning, when one of the static surveillance team were involved in checking of vehicles in the bypass road in Madurai and officials found Rs 40 lakhs from the car of Narayanasamy, former AIADMK Theni Union Secretary. The dhoti bearing the flag of AIADMK was used to cover the cash kept inside the suitcase.Â
Immediately, the cash was sent to Treasury and Madurai Collector, K Veera Ragha Rao, inspected the cash. Later, he met the media and claimed that the cash seized had no valid documents and hence it was seized. As the amount was more than Rs 10 lakh, Income Tax department were informed, added collector. When Collector was questioned if the person from whom the amount was seized was an AIADMK functionary he replied stating that he was not sure about the identity and could conclude anything only after the investigation. Even other officials stayed quiet about the identity of the person while certain other sources confirmed his identity.Â
Sources, claimed that the amount might have been taken to Tirupparakundram for the purpose of cash distribution to the voters.Â
