Officials told to expedite civil works in hospitals
State health Minister Dr C Vijayabaskar on Tuesday inspected the ongoing construction works in the Stanley and Madras Medical College campuses on Tuesday

Calling upon officials to expedite works in the buildings that would benefit the common man, the Minister visited the site of the Rs 75 crore specialty tower block being built at the Stanley Medical College campus. He visited the Rs 58.65 crore out-patient block and the Rs 19.65 crore orthopaedic ward and the Rs 28.85 crore students hostel for the Madras Medical College and the Rs 29.48 crore works for the urology ward at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital.
Talking to the media persons, the health Minister said, “The specialty tower block consisting of ground plus three floors will house 460 beds and will have 15 operation theatres. It will also have departments treating cancer, cardiac ailments, urology and neurology related diseases.”
He also said that the Union government had accorded sanction for the setting up of a medical park in Chengalpattu which would be utilised to manufacture health related equipment.
Cases had been registered against 650 quacks all over the state, Vijayabasker said and added that complaints from the public against quacks would be immediately dealt upon. Regarding dengue, the health Minister said social media sites would be used to create awareness of the disease among the public. The sites would also offer advice on what should be done in case dengue was detected. He was accompanied by health secretary Dr J Radhakrishnan, PWD SE K. Mohanraj and director of medical education Dr M Narayanababu.
