School bus mows down Tiruchy couple

Pandian (65) of Periamilaguparai in Tiruchy had been an auto consultant in the city. He went to Samayapuram on Tuesday with his wife Lalitha (60) on Tuesday. When the couple neared the Tollgate No 1 on the Tiruchy-Chennai bypass, their auto developed a snag. 

Pandian being wellversed with the mechanism, stopped the vehicle and tried to attend to the fault. His wife was sitting in the auto. Before he could finish attending to the problem, a school bus belonging to SRV Matriculation Higher Secondary school in Tiruchy rammed into the vehicle on full speed. In the impact Lalitha was crushed to death inside the vehicle and Pandian was thrown off on the road. He sustained injuries to his head and died on the spot. Kollidam police rushed to the place and retrieved both the bodies and sent them for post-mortem to Srirangam Government Hospital. The driver of the school van was arrested and further investigations were on.
