Paramasivan, an activist from Deivaseyalpuram, alerted the Thoothukudi Collector on the illegal supply of ground water from his village to the nearby areas in the recently held farmers’ grievances meeting.

He complained to the officials that due to the rampant exploitation of ground water the farmers in the village were suffering and the ground water level have gone down considerably. He also requested the Collector to stop the illegal supply immediately. The Collector forwarded the petition to his subordinate. Paramasivan who was hopeful of a positive action on his complaint was shocked when he was threatened and attacked by the people involved in the illegal supply of water.

Speaking to DTNext, Paramasivan, who was admitted at the casualty ward at Thoothukudi GH, said “Former AIADMK councillor Murugesan from Deivaseyalpuram and his men attacked me for submitting a petition against them.”

“The councillor entered my shop on Sunday night and ransacked it after attacking me. Such tactics to threaten me to desist from fighting against the illegal supply of ground water won’t work,” he added.

The activist submitted a complaint against the former councillor and his men at Pudukottai police station and demanded police action against the attackers.
